The Fire Show Wore Jump
Suits
(a response to our expulsion from The Taset of Chicago, 2001)
- The Fire Show wore jump
suits
- Mine (Nil) said "Fuck Disney" across the chest
- During our set, Joan Clausen, the stage manager, tried to put duct tape across
it to cover it
- I refused
- She put a note on stage while we were playing which read "If you don't put
this on (meaning the duct tape) you won't get your check"
- After our third song (roughly 20-25 minutes into the set) she told me if I
didn't put the duct tape on, she would cut the power (she said she had called
promoter Richard Milne of WXRT and that he had authorized her to do so)
- I refused
- I told the audience what was happening
- She cut the power
- The audience protested vehemently
- I asked Joan Claussen to confirm that Richard Milne had authorized cutting
the power (she did)
- When angry audience members asked who had given the ok to cut the power, I
told them, as far as I knew, it was WXRT
- The security crew turned hostile, threatening to have our van towed and threatening
violence, culminating in the head of the crew saying to me, menacingly, "We'll
meet again"
(A friend was filming the show, so we have all this on video tape.)
